Return to Disabilities
Rights and Responsibilities
Are you a student with a disability? Does your disability require that you seek accommodations from the University's Disabilities Services? In order to make the transition from high school to college successful in meeting your needs, we have created a list of Rights and Responsibilities for the new college student. Please note that your responsibilities will be greater due to the differences in laws for minors versus adults with disabilities. Contact Myra McGaffin at 768-9613 for more information.
RIGHTS:
- Not to be denied access due to a disability.
- To receive reasonable accommodations that provide equal opportunity.
- To have access to auxiliary aids/assistive technology.
- Not to be counseled towards a "more restrictive career objective."
- To receive assistance from the disability service office in removing any physical, academic and attitudinal barriers.
