Communication Using A Minicom

Using a Minicom (or text telephone) is a great way to communicate with friends and family if you are unable to use an ordinary telephone. They don't even need to have a Minicom themselves, as there is a very good RNID/BT relay service called Typetalk (www.typetalk.org).

Typetalk is based in Liverpool, but calls are charged at a local rate. The service works by using an operator as an intermediary. You can either contact them on your Minicom and they will speak your message whilst typing the reply, or else a hearing person wishing to contact you can ring them in the normal way and the process is then reversed.

The service is available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. The operators are all bound by a strict code of confidentiality, so you can be sure that your message will go no further.

To contact Typetalk, call 0800 7 311 888 (voice), or 0800 500 888 (text).
