Our P.E. students have many opportunities to get involved with activity programs both on and off campus. They get experience working with children during
Fit-N-Fun Day, Track & Field Day, Halloween Haunted House, Special Olympics and many other community days. We encourage attendance at our State Convention
(MAHPERD) as some of our students and faculty make presentations at the conference. Several of our students and faculty also attend the national convention
(AAHPERD) and the Canadian conference
(CAHPERD).
Part of the P.E. program involves the Self Initiated Field Experience (SIFE). Students document time spent observing P.E. teachers in action; sometimes they even lend a helping hand. The P.E. faculty have established
Learning Outcomes for our P.E. majors; those things graduates should be able to think, know, and do as a result of their studies.
Many of the students are active in the
Physical Education Major's Club. The club plans and organizes activities to raise money for the costs of student attendance at local and national conferences. The P.E. Major's club plans and hosts many of the
activity days mentioned above and members are strongly encouraged to participate in those efforts.
Many of our P.E. students get involved with the activities coordinated by the Department of
Recreation & Leisure and with the
OAPI program, thus adding to the numerous opportunities they have to interact with the children of our local communities.
