Meet the Coach - Leo Saucier (207) 768-9421 |

Coach Leo Saucier returns to the baseball diamond after 3
years away from coaching; he was the pitching coach for the 2001 squad and Head
baseball coach for 3 seasons from 2002 - 04. He has been teaching full time for
the University since his arrival in the fall of 2000 and remains a full time
instructor in the physical education department.
Coach Saucier played NCAA Div II baseball for Slippery Rock
University (Pa.) from 1980-1982 but a shoulder injury
ended his college pitching career in 1983. He ended up graduating Magna Cum
Laude from Slippery
Rock University
(1983) in 3.5 years with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Health &
Physical Education.
After college he entered the U.S. Navy and served 4 years as
a medical corpsman, working in Naval Hospitals and with the 2nd
Marines, 2nd Battalion; a
U.
S. Marine Corps infantry unit. He began
work on his Master's degree at Old Dominion University
while stationed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital
in Virginia.
After receiving his honorable discharge in 1988 coach
Saucier entered Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia were he
completed his Master's of Education Degree in Physical Education (1992). While
at Valdosta State,
he was a graduate assistant in the human performance lab and a volunteer
assistant with Valdosta
State's baseball team. He
worked closely with and learned from Coach Tommy Thomas; the all time NCAA Div.
II baseball leader in wins for a coach (1,234).
Coach Saucier taught middle school Science and Physical
Education in Georgia
from 1991 - 1996 and also coached high school baseball and football, middle school football
and track & field. At the same time
he was an adjunct instructor for Valdosta
State's physical
education department, teaching undergraduate courses at night.
He was hired full time at Valdosta State
University in the summer
of 1996; he was the physical education department activity coordinator, a
student teaching supervisor, and an instructor of physical education. He left Valdosta
State for the University of New Mexico
in 1999 to pursue a doctorate in physical education; he completed a successful
year at UNM as a teaching assistant but decided to follow his desire to coach
college baseball.
A native of Millinocket (Stearns H.S., 1980) coach Saucier
returned home to Maine to take a one year teaching
position at the University
of Maine - Presque Isle
and assist with coaching the baseball team.
That assistant position became a head coaching position and has kept him
here for 8 years as a full time instructor.
"I am so happy to be back coaching, but first and foremost I am a
teacher. The most important job I have
is to help train successful teachers of physical education."
Coach Saucier is married and lives in Easton with his wife Vicki, their 2 cats, and

Brian Morrison - Student-Assistant Coach
Brain Morrison comes to UMaine Presque Isle from New
Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada. He is a 5th
year student, finishing up his degree in Athletic Training. Prior to this season, Brian was a four-year
standout on the UMPI baseball team. He
received the Rookie of the Year award in 2004, the Most Valuable Player award
in 2006 & 2007, and capped his career off by unanimously being voted as the
Male Athlete of the Year for 2007.
Throughout his time at UMPI, Brian has enjoyed much success,
both in Presque Isle and away. As a
player, Brain was chosen by the Intercollegiate Baseball News as one of the top
3rd basemen in all of Division III baseball. During the summer of 2006, he was selected to
play for the USA Intercollegiate Division III Baseball team, which traveled to Europe to compete in the Belgium Open Tournament. This past summer of 2007, Brian played for
the Truro Senior Bearcats in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League.
Brian encompasses what it means to be a student-athlete; he
brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to this Owl team, and they are
fortunate to have him as a student-assistant coach. "I have high expectations for this season; we
have a talented group of returning players, who have gained a lot of experience
from last year's season. I believe that
our team chemistry is at the greatest that I have ever seen it since I began
playing here, which will carry us into a winning season. As an assistant coach, I want learn and gain
as much experience as I can, and I look forward to working with the team on
various aspects of the game."
