Welcome to Jacquie’s office! A junior recreation major, Jacquie grew up just north of Millinocket with a view of Mount Katahdin from her backyard. A love of the outdoors has been in her blood since birth. She completed an exciting fieldwork experience this summer, working for the New England Outdoor Center, leading whitewater rafting trips down the Penobscot, Kennebec, and Dead Rivers. She even took an UMPI group, which included her rec professors, fellow students, and alumni. In the picture, Jacquie is the one in the back and everyone else is under the spray! On campus, she gets her outdoor adventure fix through Outdoor Adventure Program International (OAPI). It is a student-run organization that plans a variety of trips from caving in New Brunswick to canoeing down the Aroostook River—and of course some day hikes in her old stomping grounds of Baxter State Park. Jacquie is learning all she can about the business of recreation because, at some point, she wants to build her own company so she can lure other people into the great outdoors. In the meantime, she will return to guiding rafts down the rivers next summer. So if you are looking for an awesome whitewater experience, ask for her at NEOC. Meet other adventurous learners
