Students Return From "Away" Brian, Laura, Erik, and Karami broadened their UMPI experience by participating in the National Student Exchange Program that took them to other universities in New York, Indiana, and Colorado. NSE helps students study at other schools in the US or Canada for a semester or two to enrich their academic understanding and expand their collegiate experience—while paying UMPI tuition or the host university's in-state rate. Brian took advantage of travel opportunities while on his exchange, visiting eight surrounding states. He also explored the opportunities these places afforded, like rafting down the Colorado River and climbing in the Rockies. Laura took the opportunity to learn more about American Sign Language by taking a class and joining a club. As a university runner, she learned that communicating with your other limbs can be just as powerful. A member of UMPI’s cross-country running team, Erik had the chance to join a running club during his exchange. A whole new class of competition can open your eyes—not to mention what it can do for your feet! For Karami, her NSE experience was one of personal growth—making it on her own on a large campus in an unfamiliar place. This kind of knowledge empowers you to become more independent and confident in everything you do. Meet new people, see new places, learn new things—then come home as a revitalized member of the UMPI community. Possibilities abound with the National Student Exchange Program!
