Thomas defeat UMPI Men Print E-mail

Waterville, ME - Led by the three-point shooting of Michael Burchill, the Thomas College men's basketball team defeated the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls by the score of 83-56 on Tuesday night at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium in Waterville, ME.

Leading by the score of 46-21 at halftime, Thomas never let up on the Owls.  Leading the way for their team was Senior captain Michael Latchford (Stirling, Ontario) and freshman Carlosito Malave (Gardner, MA), each netting 12 points.  Latchford also earned a double-double on the night grabbing 10 rebounds for his team.  Mihku Sabattus (Princeton, ME) had a game high of 12 rebounds.

The Terriors were led by the three-point shooting of Michael Burchill, who made seven of this game-high of 29 points from behind the three-point arc. 

The Owls drop to 3-15 on the season.
 
UMaine-Presque Isle men drop one to Newbury College Print E-mail

Boston, MA - From the very start of the game, the Nighthawks of Newbury College set the tempo early on by coming out to a 29 point lead in the first half,  shooting 49% from the floor, which earned them a 75-38 victory over UMPI.

Despite the slow start, the Owls played solid in the second half of the ballgame, being led by senior captain Michael Latchford (Stirling, Ontario) who supplied 9 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists for the UMaine Owls.  Leading the way for Newbury was John Rowley who finished with a game-high of 25 points.  Paul Beckford collected a game-high of 16 rebounds, while also contributing 7 points for the Nighthawks.

The Owls drop to 3-14 on the season.

 
UMaine-Presque Isle defeats Unity at home Print E-mail

Presque Isle, ME - At Wieden Gymnasium on Sunday, freshman guard James Gregory (Philadelphia, PA) scored a game high of 24 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists to lead his Owls to a 93-63 victory over Unity College.  Felix Agboola (Maplewood, NJ) scored 20 points for UMPI, Ronald Spencer (Chicago, IL) had 19 points and Allan Stround (Irvington, NJ) added 10 points in the win.

James Benzenuti paced his Unity team with 17 points, and Brandon Loons added 14 points.

With the win, the Owls move to 3-13 on the season.

 
UM-Presque Isle drops one to MMA Print E-mail

Castine, ME - At Castine on Saturday, despite the effort from guard Ronald Spencer (Chicago, IL), who led all scorers with 22 points, the Owls were defeated the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners 82-55.  Senior captain Michael Latchford (Sterling, ON) added 10 points and seven rebounds for the 2-13 Owls. 

Leading the way for Maine Maritime was Adam Haskell of Winslow, who had 20 points.  Neil Stewart of Rangeley added 13 points and eight rebounds and Derek DiFrederico of Millinocket chipped in with 12 points.

The Owls look to host Unity College on Sunday afternoon.

 
UMaine Presque Isle men battle Husson Print E-mail

Bangor, ME - At Newman gymnasium on Friday evening, Sophomore Ronald Spencer (Chicago, IL) netted a game high of 21 points, including 5 beyond the arc, to lead his Owl team in a 90-81 loss against a tough Husson team.  Freshman standout Ronald Spencer (Philadelphia, PA) scored 20 points, and Michael Latchford (Sterling, ON) and Feliz Agboola (Maplewood, NJ) both had 14 apiece.  Newcomer Allan Stroud (Irvington, NJ) totaled 10 rebounds and nine points. 

The Owls played a solid 20 minutes and only trailed by five at the half.  IN the second half, the Eagles jumped out to a 15 point lead, but UMPI answered with a run of their own.  In the end, Husson's scoring efforts and having five different players in double digits helped them to earn the close win.  Scott Kissinger and Matt MacKenzie lead their Eagle team with 18 points a piece.

The Owl men fall to 2-12 on the season as they head to Castine to take on Maine Maritime Academy.
