Kelly Warren and Kathy Kline
scored two goals each, and collected one assist, in Lyndon State College's 4-2
win over the University of Maine
at Presque Isle Saturday in women's collegiate soccer action. Despite the fact that UMaine Presque Isle
controlled the possession for the majority of the game, Lyndon State was able to capitalize on the Owl's mistakes and
finished their goals on the counter attack.
After the Hornets upped the
advantage to 2-0 at the beginning of the second half, UMaine Senior Anna Delong
(Presque Isle, ME) answered with a beautiful goal from a direct kick
cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The next three goals were
scored only minutes apart from each other.
Warren regained Lyndon's two-goal lead at 73:51 and Kline
scored an unassisted goal with 14:53 left to play in regulation. Anna Delong once again showed her leadership
by finding the back of the net at 78:44, scoring her second goal of the match.
UMaine Presque Isle's keeper
Billie Martin (Caribou, ME) made
four saves in the loss.
"We often seem to be the
better team in most of the matches we play," commented Coach Tammy Krul, "but we
end up losing the game in the transition moments."
The Owls move to 6-8-0 on the
season as they look to host rival UMaine Fort Kent on Thursday evening at
5:30. Both the men's and women's soccer
games will be held at the Presque Isle Middle
School
field.
On Sunday afternoon, both Owl teams will play host to
UMaine Machias as they pay tribute to their UMaine Presque Isle senior soccer
players. The women's game will begin at
