The UMaine Presque Isle Lady Owls earned a huge win defeating rival team, UMFK, with a score of 3-1.  The first goal of the match was scored by freshman, Mindy Dolley (LaGrange, ME) as she launched a well struck shot from just outside the 18.  Dolley also notched the second goal of the game off a set kick taken by senior captian, Anna Delong(Presque Isle) with minutes remaing in the first half of play.  The Fort Kent lady Bengals came out strong in the second half and a goal was netted by Jordyann Blacke off an assist from Brianne McGary.  UMPI's junior striker, Erin Pelletier (Madawaska, ME) answered back with a goal off a corner kick to seal the victory for the Owls.  After the match, the UMPI women celebrated as the traditional "potato barrel" was handed over to UMPI captains, Rachel Nightingale (Hermon, ME), Delong, and Pelletier.  The potato barrel will remain in the possession of the UMaine Presque Isle women's team until the two rival teams meet again next fall.

On Sunday, the Lady Owls began their last match of the season by honoring their seniors, Julie Wescott (Westbrook, ME), Lize Maynard (Washburn), Rachel Willey (Caribou, ME), and two captains, Rachel Nightingale (Hermon, ME) and Anna Delong (Presque Isle, ME).

The UMPI Women ended their season with a 3-0 win over UMaine Machais, outshooting their opponent 24 to 1, while dominating the entire game.  Junior striker, Erin Pelletier (Madawaska, ME) tucked away two goals in the match, ending her season with an impressive 12 goals and 2 assists.  Freshman stand-out, Jessica Kinney (Caribou, ME) netted the last goal of the season for the Lady Owls.

UMPI coach, Tammy Krul was very pleased with the team's effort this season. "We overcame many obstacles to get to this point.  The ladies trained hard and noticeably improved each week.  It was very rewarding to work with such a dedicated group of athletes."

The UMPI Owls end their season with an overall record of 8-8.  After a slow start, the team finished strong, winning their lost two games at home.

Kelly Warren and Kathy Kline scored two goals each, and collected one assist, in Lyndon State College's 4-2 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Saturday in women's collegiate soccer action.  Despite the fact that UMaine Presque Isle controlled the possession for the majority of the game, Lyndon State was able to capitalize on the Owl's mistakes and finished their goals on the counter attack.

After the Hornets upped the advantage to 2-0 at the beginning of the second half, UMaine Senior Anna Delong (Presque Isle, ME) answered with a beautiful goal from a direct kick cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The next three goals were scored only minutes apart from each other.  Warren regained Lyndon's two-goal lead at 73:51 and Kline scored an unassisted goal with 14:53 left to play in regulation.  Anna Delong once again showed her leadership by finding the back of the net at 78:44, scoring her second goal of the match.

UMaine Presque Isle's keeper Billie Martin (Caribou, ME) made four saves in the loss.

"We often seem to be the better team in most of the matches we play," commented Coach Tammy Krul, "but we end up losing the game in the transition moments."

The Owls move to 6-8-0 on the season as they look to host rival UMaine Fort Kent on Thursday evening at 5:30.  Both the men's and women's soccer games will be held at the Presque Isle Middle School field.

On Sunday afternoon, both Owl teams will play host to UMaine Machias as they pay tribute to their UMaine Presque Isle senior soccer players.  The women's game will begin at 12:00 pm, followed by the men at 2:00 pm.  Come and support your Owl teams and their student-athletes!

On Saturday, the Lady Owls had traveled to Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut and played a hard fought game which resulted in a 3-1 loss.  Katie Moody (Presque Isle, ME) had the lone Owl goal for the match.  First year Coach Tammy Krul was very pleased with the way her played regardless of the outcome, "Both teams had only seven shots on goal and I felt that the game was played evenly in the middle.  I'm very proud of my team."

On Thursday, the UMaine PI women traveled to the University of Maine at Machias and easily defeated the Clippers 9-0.  Erin Pelletier (Madwaska, ME) led the scoring attack with a hat trick and Jessica Kinney (Caribou, ME) scored twice.  Other goal scorers for UMPI were Mindy Dolley (LeGrange, ME), Anna Delong (Presque Isle, ME), Katie Moody (Presque Isle, ME), and Joanna Bubar (Riverside, NB).  Billie Martin (Caribou, ME) had four saves for the shut out.  "Our team played their best game of the season," commented Coach Krul, "they moved the ball very well and had excellent combination passes.  It was beautiful soccer to watch."
