2007-08 is a planning year grant funded by Nellie Mae for UMPI to investigate how the University can help Native American students achieve greater success in higher education.

This year we are working with a Community of Practice to investigate solutions to improve retention among Native American students. Community of Practice members include UMPI faculty, administrators, and staff as well as the Education Directors of the Aroostook Band of Micmacs and the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians.

During the year UMPI also connects with the Project Compass Learning Community which is composed of the 6 New England higher education institutions who have also received planning grants.
