Hello Captain Bruce!

How can you increase student interest in a subject that often has no relevance to their lives? One way is to provide experiences that will create more meaning for the subject matter. Hello Captain Bruce shows how to increase student interest in Maine’s economy by providing students with a hands on approach.

 The Joy of Science Literature

This workshop will discuss how to incorporate popular scientific writers, such as Carl Sagan, Stephen Jay Gould, Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking, etc. to introduce students to the wonders of scientific literature. Magic in the Classroom: Spellbound with Poetry

Most students, and some teachers, come to poetry with dread. Do you have unique ideas to share for using poetry in the classroom? Come explore new ways of teaching poetry in a variety of classrooms, and try your own hand at putting words together on the page in memorable ways. Poetry is the “sing” in Advertising. It can be a great attention-getter and a memory aid. Geraldine Cannon Becker has presented similar workshops at various conferences, even dressing up as Professor McGonagol at a Harry Potter Symposium (Oct. ’05, Salem, Massachusetts).
   LEVEL Elementary.

Presenter: See Geraldine Cannon Becker’s biography under Keynote Address.
