There have been a number of literary groups that have existed since the conception of this school in 1903. The purpose of these groups has basically remained the same throughout time, with the emphasis being on providing an outlet for creative and reportive writing. Following is a compilation of the literary groups that have existed on this campus.

• The Salmagundi - The Salmagundi began as a small school journal in 1909. This journal was published each semester, with emphasis being placed on student reporting of school activities and on student creative writing, such as poetry. In 1928 the Salmagundi was first published as a full yearbook. From that time on, the Salmagundi was the name of the school yearbook, with one issue published per year. For three years in the 1980's, the school yearbook name was changed. In 1985, 1986, and 1987 the school yearbook was called the Northstar.

• The Northern Lights - The Northern Lights, a school newspaper, began in 1942. As a newspaper, this publication focused on the reporting of school events, activities, and general issues related to the running and functioning of the school.

• Rhetorica - The Rhetorica, a publication that focused on student work, such as written pieces (poems and short stories) and artwork, began in 1968 under the direction of faculty advisor Dr. Nan Amodeo. One publication was put out each semester. In 1972, with a new faculty advisor, Dr. Kenneth Taylor, the name of this literary publication was changed to the Compost. This publication underwent more changes in its name in the years to follow. In 1977 it was called Seeds, and in 1978 it was renamed again to Pandora's Book. In 1980, the name changed to Foxtail. The name of this publication remained Foxtail until its final issue in 1992.

• University Times - The University Times began in 1984 as a school newspaper that was to be written and put together by the students. To this day, the University Times remains a school newspaper, and has been recognized as among the best for small schools.

• The Image - The first record of The Image, a school events calendar, is from 1976; however, that was a volume six edition. The Image continues to be produced to this day.
