Social Activities are an important part of student life on most campuses. Social activities are good breaks from the everyday life of education, and should be included in the lives of all students. This campus has a long history of social activities, originating from its conception when students and faculty would all attend social activities together. Below is a list of social groups that have been established on campus througout the years.

• Social Activities Committee - The Social Activities Committee first met on November 7, 1938. The 1938 edition of the Salmagundi states that, "The purpose of the Social Activities Committee is to plan and coordinate the social activities of ASNS throughout the school year," (Salmagundi, 1938)

• Dance Committee - The Dance Committee, organized in 1941, was established to plan and organize the various dances that were held throughout the school year. These dances included a Fall Formal, a Cabaret Dance, the Spring Formal, and dances that were held after each home basketball game.

• The Frat Ball - The Frat Ball, a dance put on by the fraternities on campus, began in 1961.

• Interdorm Social Committee - The Interdorm Social Committee was established in 1975. The function of this committee was to plan and organize social activities for the dormitories that would encourage the interaction of students from the various dorms.

• Student Activities Board (SAB)- The Student Activities Board, established in 1984, is a group that plans, organizes, and implements activities for students to attend on campus. The original group that functioned in the same way was the Social Activities Committee. SAB continues to this day. Examples of activities that the SAB brings to campus are: Comedians, Hypnotists, and Game Shows (You Laugh, You Lose). The SAB also plays recent movies frequently.

• Spring Fling - Spring Fling is an annual event that began in 1991. It is usually one or two weekends before finals in the spring semester. Spring Fling weekend is a weekend of fun for students, before the stresses of the end of the year finals. There are various activities at spring fling that students are encouraged to join. There is usually an outdoor barbeque, a band, and various recreational and sports-related competitions that students as well as faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in.

• Spring Ball - The First Annual Spring Ball was held on April 18, 1997. The idea began as a result of the efforts of Mr. Keith Madore, Scheduling Assistant of the Conferences and Special Programs Office. The Spring Ball includes a dinner buffet (in Kelley Commons), attended by faculty, staff, and students. Immediately following the dinner there is a dance held in the Multipurpose Room of the Campus Center. The first Spring Ball was a huge success, and it is hoped that the Spring Ball will remain an activity for the students of UM-Presque Isle for years to come.
