Wrestling first came about at the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1972. Slowly, the popularity of wrestling grew, and in 1979 the Wrestling Team won the Northern New England Intercollegiate Championship. Gradually, the popularity of wrestling as an intercollegiate sport deteriorated, and the last time there was a wrestling team was in the 1984-1985 school year.
