Insects have lived on Earth for about 350 million years. They are the dominant group of animals on Earth today - over a thousand different kinds may live in a single backyard! Insects are classified in the Class Insecta which includes all animals with three body parts (head, thorax, abdomen), six legs and two antennae. The insects are subdivided into 23 different orders with about half of these represented in the museum exhibit dedicated to insects from Aroostook County. There is also a display of insect coloration and camouflage. Collected by Isaac and Ephraim Taylor, Houlton |
