Outstanding UMPI Students with Disabilities

We are extremely proud of the outstanding UMPI students who, despite challenging disabilities, have served to inspire others through their accomplishments and contributions while at the university.  Prior to attending UMPI, Leeann was fully included in Presque Isle High School.  She stresses the importance of having the expertise and support of well qualified special educators and vision specialists.

Leeann Morrow, an English major in the Honors Program at UMPI who refuses to allow being blind to slow her down.Leeann Morrow

Leeann is majoring in English and a participant in the Honors Program at the university. She refuses to allow blindness to slow her down, both literally and figuratively. Leeann is very dedicated and articulate student who possesses a great sense of humor. While at UMPI, she has climbed mountains, whitewater rafted on the Kennebec River, attended state conferences, and has been highly involved in student government. Leeann uses an optalec reader, a brailler, a white cane, and hopes to acquire a seeing eye dog in the future. She is supported by many friends, a large family, and a strong religious faith. Her courage and tenacity are truly inspiring!
