The Bachelor of Arts degree program in Art is designed to provide the individual the opportunity and the environment for the best possible education in the visual arts. Emphasis is placed on the development of the individual and his/her understanding of how the various arts shape the environment and how she or he can create a concrete statement to this effect now and throughout life.

All prospective art majors and minors should begin their programs in the freshman year. Electives should include art history courses as well as studio art. In addition to major requirements, all Bachelor's candidates must complete the General Education Core. Bachelor of Arts majoring in Art must also select a minor.

Admission to the B.A. program - By the end of junior year, the BA Studio Art candidate should choose a major emphasis. An emphasis requires that you take 3 courses (9 credits) from one of the following sequences: Art History/Film, Ceramics/Sculpture, Painting/Drawing, Photography, or Printmaking/Digital Media.

This sequence must be completed before Art 499 Fine Art Senior Exhibition. Art 499 is designed to clarify and establish a personal direction in the student's major emphasis. The student will formulate an in-depth study of an advanced problem in his or her major emphasis. Written and oral defense of the student's artwork will terminate in a group or one-person exhibition for the BA student with a studio emphasis. An oral defense and presentation of thesis is required of the BA student with an Art History/Film emphasis. Fall and Spring enrollment in the same calendar year is required.

All candidates for the bachelor's degree must complete the General Education Core of Courses, which totals 44 credits.
