International Studies, Bachelor of Arts, French Concentration The Department of International Studies provides an individualized program encompassing communication and language, historical and political awareness, and multicultural appreciation for students who will be the citizens of the global village of the 21st century. The French concentration is designed to develop maximum proficiency in the communicative skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Cultures (those of France and Quebec in particular) become the vehicle through which these skills are addressed. The insistence on functional language in the cultural context reflects national trends in foreign language education and is a realistic approach to the demands of the job market. Presented in the context of international studies, the French program provides the tools for communicating in the many nations of the Francophone world and for understanding the patterns and processes governing world events. In addition, the Department of International Studies offers certificate programs and minors in Atlantic Community Studies and Russian and East European Studies. |
