Recreation/Leisure Services, B.S.
Outdoor Recreation/Leadership Concentration
Tourism Concentration
Recreation and Leisure Faculty
Recreation and Leisure Website
All students majoring in Recreation/
Leisure will be required to take a core of the same
classes which will introduce them to the field of recreation
and leisure. The core classes have been
designed to provide students with pertinent management,
leadership, and programming skills as well as
an introduction to the philosophical discourse of the
field. To complement the core, they will then choose a
concentration in either outdoor recreation or tourism.
Students in outdoor recreation will focus on practical
applications of outdoor recreation and leadership
development, wilderness expedition skills, and trip
planning. Courses in tourism will provide students
with practical skills in careers in hospitality management
and destination marketing. In addition, students
will apply critical analysis to problems in tourism
development, and use these skills to complete intensive
research projects. All students will be required to
do an internship which will provide the opportunity to
gain the experience necessary to work in a job related
to their concentration.
All candidates for the bachelor's degree must complete the General
Education Core of Courses, which totals 44 credits.
