GeoEcology Club at the University of Maine at Presque Isle

The Geo-Ecology Club was founded in about 1973, originally as the Geology Club; the name was changed to GeoEcology Club in 1990. The Club is one of the greatest and the most active clubs on the campus. The Club is dedicated to learning more about geology, ecology, and other earth and environmental sciences issues. The Club typically sponsors a number of great field trips and visiting speakers, and attends professional conferences and meetings held in New England during the year. Students from any majors are welcome to join the Club and have fun with other club members. To join the Club, please contact the club officers (see who they are and their email addresses below).

The Club meets every Thursday at 12:00 in the Geology Laboratory, Folsom 302. (Email club officers for accurate meeting schedules). Dr. Kevin McCartney serves as the adviser for the Club.

          What's up?
  • The Club has made plans for activities for the 2007-2008 school year.  They include attending NEIGC conference/trips held at Quebec City in early October, GSM fall meeting at Portland Springs on October 19, a field trip to Bathurst Mine of New Brunswick of Canada in the fall, GSM spring meeting at Bowdoin College, and a field trip to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

  • Eight (Yes, 8!) club members attended 2007 NE-GSA meeting held at University of New Hampshire in March 11-13. All of them had a great time and enjoyed the meeting and the beers (except one who does not drink beers. What a pity!)

  • On Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, the Club run a great field trip to the Mars Hill Mountain to see the windmill construction and to learn the Mars Hill Mountain geology.

  • Six members of GeoEcology Club attended Geological Society Maine fall meeting held at Portland Springs, Oct. 27. Click here for pictures taken during the meeting.

  • GeoEcology Club members were invited to a banquet at the President's house, Oct. 26, to meet this year's distinguished lecturer, Dr. Paul Mayewski of UM and other earth scientists of UMPI and the community.
