ATHLETICS

Prerequisite: Selection by appropriate coach.
Purpose: To provide an outlet for those students whose athletic skills are such that they can compete against other colleges and universities.

Programs: Soccer, Cross Country Running, Cross Country Skiing, Golf, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball.

CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST

Prerequisite: Open to all students
Purpose: Campus Crusade for Christ is an interdenominational student Christian organization seeking to provide an environment that gives students spiritual support and motivation for Christian living.

CLUB SPORTS

Prerequisite: Open to any student.
Purpose: Club sports provide an opportunity for students to compete against non-varsity teams from outside the University.

Semester Programs: The sports offered depend upon student interest. Previously there have been teams in indoor soccer, ice hockey, volleyball, floor hockey, and track.
First Meeting: To be arranged in conjunction with Chris Smith by those parties.

COMMUNITY RECREATION

Prerequisite: Open to any student.
Purpose: Community recreation offers options for informal activities for all students.

Currently we have arranged for free ice skating at the Northern Maine Forum, free swimming at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool, and half-price downhill and cross country tickets at Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill.

EXPERIENCED WOMEN ON CAMPUS (EWOC)

Prerequisite: Open to all students interested in the experiences of non-traditional students.
Purpose: To encourage and support non-traditional students on our campus so that they may take full advantage of their educational opportunities.

FRENCH CLUB

Prerequisite: Full time and part time students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle can join the club. Both students enrolled in a French course,francophiles and francophone students are welcomed.
Purpose: The French Club shall serve the campus and its members by encouraging French language and cultural activities both on and off of the campus. Such activities may include but are in no way limited to:

  1. Facilitation of a weekly French conversation table
  2. Organization of weekend/day trips to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Québec. An eventual trip to France is a goal of the club
  3. On-campus exhibition of French or Francophone films, art, or other appropriate cultural regalia

GAMES CLUB

Prerequisite: Open to anyone interested in board-gaming, role-playing, or live-action games.
Purpose: To provide a friendly relaxed atmosphere for competition outside conventional sports.

GAY-STRAIGHT ALLIANCE

Prerequisite: Open to all interested glbtq (gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/queer), questioning and straight students.
Purpose: A member-directed group for peer support, information, and education about issues involving one’s sexuality.

Prerequisite: Interest in science and our environment.
Purpose: To provide an assortment of learning experiences through field trips.

HONORS CLUB

Prerequisite: Open to all those interested in enrichment both socially and educationally.
Purpose: To build community between members of the Honors Program and, more generally, all UM-Presque Isle students by providing educational and social activities that will enrich both the academic and social experiences at UM-Presque Isle.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CLUB

Prerequisite: Full or part time students at UMPI. Both American and foreign students are encouraged to join the club. International students who have a full tuition waiver are expected to participate.
Purpose: To help internationalize the campus environment; provide a support group for international students; provide forums for discussion of other cultures; teach leadership skills; and to teach cross culture communication.
Semester Programs: Presentations on a few countries, International Holiday party, trip to Orono for culture fest.

INTRAMURALS

Prerequisite: Intramural competition is open to all UMPI students.
Purpose: The purpose of the intramurals program is to provide healthy recreational outlets for students at the University.

Semester Programs: Fall leagues include softball, flag football, golf, tennis, and basketball. The spring offerings include bowling, basketball, floor hockey, indoor soccer, archery, and weight lifting. Other regularly scheduled community recreation activities are swimming, ice skating, down-hill skiing, and a run/walk program.

KAPPA DELTA PHI FRATERNITY*

* open to first semester freshmen

Prerequisite: Males with the minimum of twelve credits, in good academic standing who are not already members of a Greek letter social organization.
Purpose: A philanthropic fraternity who provides campus and community services with emphasis on education and brotherhood.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PROGRAM INTERNATIONAL (OAPI)

Prerequisite: Open to all UMPI students, faculty, staff and community.
Mission: The Mission of the Outdoor Adventure Program International (OAPI), at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, is to enhance the quality of life and broaden the learning experiences of the campus and surrounding community through outdoor education. OAPI is designed to provide any student, faculty, or staff member associated with the University of Maine at Presque Isle and the surrounding community with a variety of opportunities to experience the outdoors. The organization is focused on meeting many interests outside of a classroom setting, and people of all skill levels and interests are encouraged to attend programs and should feel free to provide input on future events.

Semester Programs: Instructional programs and trips in backpacking, white water rafting, kayaking and rock climbing. Schedule for fall outings is available at the beginning of the semester.

PEER ADVISORS

Prerequisite: Must have accumulated a minimum of 45 credit hours with a GPA of 2.5 or better, have received an endorsement from at least one faculty member, excellent communication skills, an ability to relate well with other students, and a strong desire to serve the University community.
Purpose: To assist in the registration/orientation program, staff the Peer Academic Support Services (PASS) office, and assist with the College Success Seminar.
First Meeting: It is held in the spring following selection of peer advisors.

PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS LEADERS CLUB
PHI BETA LAMDA

Prerequisite: Open to anyone with an interest in business management or accounting.
Purpose: Designed to provide important networking opportunities within the business and accounting world and to serve the needs of campus and community through sponsorship of workshops, panels, and guest speakers.

Semester Programs: Speaker series, vita program, and potential volunteer work.

PHI ETA SIGMA

Purpose: Phi Eta Sigma was founded by three distinguished Phi Beta Kappa members, professors, and administrators at the University of Illinois on March 22, 1923, to encourage and recognize high scholastic achievement among members of the freshman classes. Phi Eta Sigma is the third most senior member of the Association of College Honor Societies.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION MAJORS CLUB

Prerequisite: Interest in the field of Physical Education.
Purpose: To develop professionalism in members by attending conferences and organizing a variety of Physical Education activities.

PREPARATION FOR UNIVERSITY LIFE & LEARNING (PULL)

Prerequisite: Students applying for these positions must have at least one semester of residence in the residence halls at UMPI, be in good judicial standing with the University, and have a minimum GPA of 2.25.
Purpose: These students are selected to work with the University’s Program. The pull Programmers design and run programs developed to help freshmen succeed in college.

PRESQUE ISLE STUDENT MINISTRIES (PRISM)

Prerequisite: Activities open to UM-Presque Isle students, faculty & staff.
Purpose: Presque Isle Student Ministries (prism) exists to help meet the spiritual needs of the UM-Presque Isle campus community.

Semester Programs: prism provides a variety of campus ministry activities: (1) Bible study/prayer time, (2) The Breakfast Club -  a forum for the discussion of ethical issues, (3) counseling with students and staff, (4) career information, (5) information regarding area churches, (6) graduate theological education information.

RESIDENT ASSISTANT (RA)

Prerequisite: Students applying for this position must be in good judicial standing with the University, must have a minimum GPA of 2.25, and must have been a student at UMPI for at least one semester.
Purpose: Resident Assistants are students who work for the Residence Life Office. These students receive training prior to the fall opening in order to help them assist their residents in succeeding in college. This training includes helping roommates resolve differences, helping students transition into college life, and how to assist individuals who may be in need.

Purpose: To promote student involvement in the management of the residence halls, as well as develop programs and activities for the University’s resident population.

S.H.R.M.  - The UMPI Society for Human Resource Management

Purpose: The purpose of this chapter is to acquaint students, considering a future in business, or any profession, with the field of human resource management and/or labor relations; to keep students up to date on new developments in the field of human resource management; to help students develop better communication, leadership, and organizational skills through learning opportunities with human resource practitioners; to encourage adherence to the Code of Ethics of the Society of Human Resource Management.

SKYWAY MANAGER (SM)

Prerequisite: Students applying for this position must have been an RA for at least one semester, must be in good judicial standing with the University, and must have a minimum GPA of 2.25.
Purpose: Skyway Manager is a student who works for the Residence Life Office. This student receives training prior to the fall opening in order to help him/her supervise a building containing 20 to 35 residents.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES BOARD

Prerequisite: Students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle who are willing to be an active representative in developing, planning, and supporting activities are encouraged to join.
Purpose: It is responsible for planning and implementing social, educational, and cultural activities on campus.
Year Programs: Spring Fest, Super Bowl Party, movies, comedians, Potty Press, hypnotists, speakers, Winter Weekend, and more!

Prerequisite: Membership in this organization is by invitation. The selection process involves the Office of Admissions, current Student Ambassadors, faculty and staff.
Purpose: The purpose of the organization is to introduce prospective students and their family members to the University and to serve as general campus hosts.

Prerequisite: Open to any students who may be interested in the Athletic Training Curriculum.
Purpose: To introduce students into the competitive field of Athletic Training. This club is specifically designed to augment the theoretical material introduced in the classroom and apply this to the practical setting in the athletic training room and athletic playing fields.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS

Prerequisite: Open to all students interested in behavioral sciences (e.g., sociology, social work, psychology).
Purpose: Promote greater understanding of the Social Work profession by inviting Professional Speakers that provide information about job and educational opportunities.
Semester Programs: Professional Speakers and business meetings.

STUDENT SENATE

Prerequisite: The student is required to be in good academic standing and must pay an activity fee. Upon application to the Senate, the student must submit a fact sheet that includes reasons for wanting to be a Senator/Officer and listing experience pertinent to the position. All elected senators are required to serve on at least one committee and submit a copy of their academic schedule. Individuals seeking a position as either a Senator or Officer are required to run strictly as a representative of the student body and not as a representative of any other outside organization.
Purpose: The Student Senate is to be the official governing body of the students at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The Senate accepts the responsibility of receiving and reviewing applications and constitutions of student organizations, as well as recommend approval of new student organizations. The Senate shall also be responsible for (1) annual approval of the program priorities for expenditures of student activity funds; (2) overseeing the equitable distribution of student activity fees; (3) receiving and reviewing the budget requests of student organizations.

UMPI COMMUNITY BAND

Purpose: This is a band made up of students, faculty, staff, and community members which performs several concerts throughout the academic year and practices regularly.

Purpose: The Chorale is comprised of students, faculty, staff, and community members who perform several concerts during the academic year. The chorale holds weekly practices.

Prerequisite: Any male or female who is interested in playing hockey and competing on both local and college level.

Purpose: Interested students will hear cases regarding University policy violations. Students will also aid in the determination of appropriate sanctioning.

Purpose: The University Players put on several plays throughout the academic year ranging from musicals to Shakespeare.

Prerequisite: No previous experience needed.

VICTIM INFORMATION SPECIALISTS

Purpose: Students will receive training on how to help individuals who have been victimized. Team members will receive training to act as resources in relationship issues, sexual assaults and other incidents.

WUPI Radio - 92.1 FM

Prerequisite: All students, faculty, and staff who are interested in radio broadcasting. No radio experience needed. Desire to learn about radio and to play the latest music.
Purpose: To broadcast the latest college alternative music to the students and community. WUPI is a student run, volunteer radio station with an open format.
