Ever believed in ghosts or monsters? If you were either visiting or assisting in the Haunted House put on Oct 26th, you would know that many such "monstrosities" were roaming about. The Haunted House has regularly been put on by members of the Outdoor Adventure Programs International, located within the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Where this event has traditionally been located in the lower floor of Normal Hall in the past, the chosen location for this year was the running track on the second floor of Gentile Hall. All children who attended were accompanied by both their parents and an assigned tour guide though a variety of Halloween spectacles; insane criminals, witches eating gooey entrails, a mad monster chef, and a masked man swinging from the rock-wall toward the windows beside the track. The scare-factor was easy to manage. The tour guides were to ask how scary the children wanted their tour to be, rating from 1 – 10, least scary to most scary and all in-between. Once selected by the group, the tour guide would radio to all posts and alert them of how scary the current tour was to be. Included among the tour guides were codes for any sort of emergency, medical or otherwise. Also included for the children was a whole floor’s-worth of fun and games. Children could play relay games, tag, parachute games, and various Halloween-interactive games. The focus was entirely on the children. There was one little boy dressed as a teddy bear. When asked what he was, the little boy said "I’m a kid!" |
