Jackie LundeenJackie Lundeen, a self-proclaimed free-spirited County advocate who has represented District 6 in the Maine Legislature and served four terms, is giving up her seat only to run for a new one. This is Lundeen's first time running for the Maine Senate. So why is she looking to make the change?

"I was termed out of the House. So in order to keep representing the district, I had to run for the Senate. I had to continue representing the people," Lundeen said.

Lundeen's been in farming here in The County for 40 years and is still going strong. She has sponsored many bills and is an active advocate for preserving The County's agricultural and natural resources. By being in the Senate, she hopes to promote business here in northern Maine. She wants to keep younger generations educated and in The County.

What does The County mean to her?
"The County is a place where I was born and have been raised. I'm an avid outdoorsperson who loves all four seasons of Maine. I love living here with my family and enjoying the people I have grown up with and grown to love," Lundeen said.

Lundeen understands the importance of an election race and the importance of first-time voters. I asked her if getting the attention of first-time voters can help her campaign.

"Yes, it does. Having been in the farming business for 40 years, many people have worked with my family, so I know a lot of younger folks. Also, my grandchildren help get the word out to vote, to friends and other community members. This allows me to stay in touch with the up-and-coming generations," Lundeen said.

Lundeen followed up by asking me if I was a registered voter. I had to chuckle when I said yes because I knew what she was going to say.

"Well then, vote Jackie Lundeen for Senate District 34!" she said.

Voting is a way for voices to be heard. Don't let others speak for you: get out and vote!
