Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) - 2003 return.
(February 3rd - April 9th, 2004)
The Business department at University of Maine at Presque Isle with the help of volunteer accounting students will be offering free tax help through the IRS VITA program. The VITA program provides free basic income tax return preparation to individuals with
- Low to moderate incomes ($18,000 for individuals and $35,000 for families)
- Individuals with disabilities
- Limited English Proficiency (LEP) taxpayers
Inaddition to that Taxpayers must meet the following general qualifications to use these services:
- Federal forms 1040EZ, 1040A
- Federal form 1040 with:
- A schedule A and B, or
- A schedule C-EZ
- No rental property
- No sale of stocks or property
To have your taxes filed through the VITA program follow the following procedure.
- make sure you have all the documents and information required.
- call Clare Exner at (207) 768-9474 or email exner@umpi.maine.edu and schedule an appointment. (schedule of volunteers availability)
- come to the appointment with all the documents and information that is need.
- when the tax return is completed, where ever required affix your signature and collect your copy of the return.
