Dana Allison originally came from Vermont, but moved to Presque Isle in 1965 and then to Castle Hill in 1975. She made her first quilt top when she was nine years old, and took it up seriously about 20 years ago, and has made more than a hundred quilts over the past fifteen years. She commonly makes quilts and quilted items as family and wedding gifts – each of her five children has several of her quilts – and makes a few for sale. Dana has also organized shows of antique quilts for the Haystack Historical Society and the Historical Pavilion of the Northern Maine Fair. (Value $1000, bidding starts at $200)

Marie Ashby has been making dolls for the past 25 years, after running a ceramic shop out of her house for 20 years before that. She often makes the entire doll, including the porcelain faces and hands, leather body, cloths, hat, shoes and wig. Much of her work is of the old French and German styles, circa 1890-1914. She has taught doll making all over the state and has sold her dolls all over the country. She also makes and sells doll parts and supplies. (Value $150, bidding starts at $75)

Heather Bessey got interested in pottery while in college when asked to apply her chemistry knowledge to glazes. She has degrees in forestry and entomology and much of her work has plant (lupins, iris, ferns) and insect themes. She has lived in Ashland for about 30 years, after coming to the area as a forester for International Paper Company. She recently did much of the work in organizing the Early American Festival at Ashland Days. (Value $40, bidding starts at $25)

Richard Clark grew up in Caribou and moved to Perham in 1990. He does drawings with graphite pencil and paintings in acrylic and pastels, preferring landscapes from northern Maine that include trees. He has had two one-man shows at the Reed Gallery at UM-Presque Isle and has won a number of awards. His Woods Edge Gallery is near his home in Perham and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday. (Value $100, bidding starts at $40)

Julie Daly moved to Presque Isle form New Jersey in 1969, and worked as a secretary at the University of Maine at Presque Isle for many years. She has been painting for about 25 years. She paints in oil and does portraits ("like eyes, especially"), seacoasts and still lifes. She has won several "Best Overall" awards at the Northern Maine Fair and is heavily influenced by Frank Benson, who was a turn-of-the-century American impressionist. Lisa Desjardins paints in several media, including watercolor, pastel and oil. Her love of the country and nature are portrayed in her impressionistic images. Her work includes many subjects from landscapes and coastal scenes to animal portrayals. She began painting while living in Southern Maryland, having been inspired by the local plant-life. She has recently returned from a two week artist's trip to Italy. Lisa contributed a piece of original art last year and has given prints of her work to the Rotary Auction for many years. Rose Doughman grew up in Perham and has lived in Woodland the past ten years. She has been painting for the past eight years. Her specialty is landscapes with lots of flowers and color, although she also works form photographs of The County. This is the second time that her work has been showcased in the Rotary Art Auction. William L. Duncan is from Caribou and is now active in the Maine Swedish Colony area. He is known as a photographer of local landscape and culture. A recent Master's degree has extended his practice to include public art and teaching. Working with students, he continues to explore a variety of media from traditional graphic arts techniques through digital imaging. His current interest is art in the social context. Russ Gagnon does glass all day, making eyeglasses as a profession and stained glass as a hobby. Born and raised in Caribou, Russ began making lampshades, windows and other items of stained glass 18 years ago because he found it relaxing. He has been teaching stained glass at adult ed in Caribou for 16 years and Presque Isle for 10 years, and has now graduated hundreds of students. He always experiments, never doing the same thing more than once, but prefers traditional styles. (Value $150, bidding starts at $50)

Edwina Gagnon has lived in the Fort Fairfield area all her life. She started painting about 35 years ago, after studying under Bessie Higgins of Presque Isle. She taught art classes for 8 to 14-year-olds in the Fort Fairfield area for about 15 years. She uses oil and prefers landscapes, seascapes, animals, and has done a series of old Fort Fairfield schoolhouses. She is now retired after being a secretary at TAMC for 18 years, but still paints regularly. (Value $125, bidding starts at $60)

Michele Gnodde has been doing art "forever" and prefers oil paintings of light and landscapes. She moved to Maine about 4 years ago and teaches art from kindergarden to 12th grade in Madawaska. She recently won the People's Choice Award at the "Paint Houlton's Heritage Show." (Value $150, bidding starts at $55)

Paul Hamlin starting doing photography seriously about 55 years ago, when his older brother built a darkroom. He originally did black-and-white photographs before transitioning to color and has for the past eight years been doing digital photographs, with editing on the computer. He does not miss the darkroom much. He prefers landscapes and closeups, and wildlife subjects such as flowers and insects. He now teaches photography for adult ed at the Presque Isle High School, and an image of his is on this year's Katahdin Trust Bank calendar. (Value $150, bidding starts at $80)

Remillie Norsworthy drew her first horse at the age of 3, and has preferred animals as a subject for her paintings ever since. She also draws "structural" objects, such as homes and businesses. She is a graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she majored in secondary education and is now in her 29th year of teaching at Central Aroostook High School, in Mars Hill. Remillee has won numerous awards at the Northern Maine Fair, Monmouth Fair, Bath Heritage Days Art Festival, the State of Maine Sportsman's Art Show, and the Winthrop Sidewalk Art Festival. Nancy Paradis is a "frustrated painter" who took to wood carving thirteen years ago after borrowing her stepfather's carving knife. She grew up in Camden, went to the University of Maine at Fort Kent, and then taught English for 23 years at Ft. Kent High School. Her work is mostly caricatures of people carved on balm of gilead wood. This is a balsam poplar with thick bark and reddish wood. She also makes garden gnomes from cedar logs. She is a member of the Artist Tree Gallery in Ft. Kent and the Visions Gallery in Houlton. (Value $50, bidding starts at $20)

Lionel Parker likes to work with all kinds of wood. After selling potato chips for Humpty Dumpty, he began upon retirement making wood crafts of animals. Lionel lives in Grand Isle, where he is happy to show his creations. He has done three shows at the Cary Medical Center. (Value $125, bidding starts at $75)

Paula Robertson is best known for her watercolor depictions of some aspect of life in The County. A native of Ft. Kent, she began painting ten years ago following a 26 year teaching career in Caribou. Although her media of choice is watercolor, she enjoys experimenting with acrylic, mixed media, and collage techniques and paints a large variety of subjects. She is an award winning artist in South Carolina, where she winters. (Value $130, bidding starts at $70)

Judy Sherman Judy Sherman was raised and still lives in OxBow. She was "always a doodler" but started formal art lessons in oil from Wilma Tompkins in 1988. She is best known for oil paintings of birds and animals, but also does acrylic or watercolor paintings of flowers, houses, landscapes, and wildlife. Judy has been "Artist of the Month" several times both at TAMC and Cary Medical Center, won many blue ribbons at the Northern Maine Fair, and an award at the Bangor Sidewalk Art Festival. She now runs the Deep In The Woods consignment gift shop in OxBow, which includes 64, mostly County, artists and craftsmen along with OxBow Wreaths. (Value $85, bidding starts at $50)
