Betheny Anderson has been painting all of her life and was an art teacher in Aroostook County for 33 years. She has been a lifelong resident of Caribou.. She specializes in drawing Aroostook County landscapes and historical sites with pen, ink, painting and printmaking. She is the only person who has displayed at all thirty of the Caribou Arts and Crafts Shows since the inception of that event. Betheny was a participant in the first Rotary Art Auction, in 2003.

Patsy Carlson was born and raised in Presque Isle. She started doing drawing at age 7 and became serious about art after taking courses at UMPI. She works in acrylic and prefers landscapes, seascapes and still lifes. She occasionally paints portraits. Her painting of a lighthouse won best of show at the Northern Maine Fair in 2002. Patsy is a substitute teacher throughout the region and an educational technition in the Fort Fairfield area. She is now taking courses at NMCC and is planning to start selling more of her work.

Lionel Clark was born in the woods of Aroostook County and lived in the lumber camps until he was age 13. He has continued to live as a lumberjack until recently. He started doing his artwork in about 1990, when he was in his 40s. Lionel makes wood scuptures and models in the 1700s lumberjack style using logs, bark and whatever is available in the woods. He builds models of lumber camps and villages and has recently started work on a chair and table. His work is on display at April in Maine, the antique group shop just north of the interstate on Rt. 1.

Lavina Corey was born and raised in Washburn. She has been working on her art for more than 25 years and received encouragement early on from well-known Washburn artist Gloria Wilcox. Lavina favors painting Aroostook County scenes, mostly in acrylic but in now working more with watercolor. She especially likes painting trees and snow scenes as well as flowers. She also does commission work such as the painting of household gardens.

Tom Cote was born and has lived in northern Maine, and has recently retired as a art teacher at Limestone Community School. His specialty is wood carvings and his work has been seen for many years at area art and craft shows, and more recently at the Jewelry Box in the Aroostook Center Mall. His art is in private collections on all the earth's continents except Antarctica. Tom was also a participant in last year's Rotary Art Auction. Tom Cote will be the “Artist in Residence” at this year's Rotary Art Auction.

Luke Cushman was born in Caribou and graduated from Caribou High School before going to Cedarville University in Ohio. He paints portraits and landscapes in acrylic and has art in galleries in Ohio and Boston. He now has his own business in Old Town building kitchen cabinets, staircases and architectural trimwork. He is presently working on a rocking chair in the Sam Maloof style, and is building a 30 X 50' post and beam horse barn this fall.

Lisa Desjardins paints in several media, including watercolor, pastel and oil. Her love of the country and nature are portrayed in her impressionistic images. Her work includes many subjects from landscapes and coastal scenes to animal portrayals. She began painting while living in Southern Maryland, having been inspired by the local plant-life. Lisa and her father, John Holub, have contributed prints to the Rotary Auction for many years; this is the third year that Lisa has contributed an original piece to the Rotary Art Auction.

Brenda A. Dow is a native of Presque Isle, and graduated from UMPI in nursing. She has been an interior designer since 1965 and in 1989 established her own business, Interior Expressions, with a studio in her home. She has recently been working with watercolor and jewelry and experimenting with gouache. She paints still lifes and some landscapes, especially rustic stone wall settings in the French Provincial style and has been influenced by Houlton artist Esther Faulkner and jewelry designer Nancy Tang of Frankfort. She sells her work at the Visions Gallery in Houlton.

Michele Green has a BA in Art from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and lives in Westfield. With encouragement from her artistic parents, she has been painting since childhood. While she works in varying media, most of her recent work has been in acrylic with several pieces reflecting her concern for the environment. Most recent projects include bench for the Discovery Museum in Bangor. She is now working on monochromatic landscapes. Michele previously contributed to the 2004 Rotary Art Auction.

Cynthia McCarthy was born in Perth, New Brunswick, but has living in Fort Fairfield and Easton before moving to Mars Hill. She started painting 18 years ago, and is largely self-taught, although she took a class from Wilma Tompkins. She prefers painting animals such as moose and raccoons, in oil, watercolor and especially acrylic. She is now experimenting with abstract art and collages.

Russell Mount has been carving decoys for twelve years. He arrived in northern Maine in 1969, after relocating here from the west coast. He began decoy carving while working as a park ranger in the Allagash Waterway. He has studied bird carving with Keith Mueller, a well known carver in Connecticut. Russell's specialty is duck and shorebird carvings. He has an interest in old decoy makers and likes to carve shorebirds in the antique style.

Rita Olson initially started doing her artwork 25 years ago but after a break started again after coming into The County in 1998. She originally came from Pennsylvania but has been inspired by the countrysides of northern Maine. She paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor and for the most part does landscapes, with some stilllifes. Rita studied art at the Wallingford Art Center in Wallingford PA, with Clint Bradley at the Darlington Fine Arts in Darlington, PA, and has worked with well-known watercolorist Jane Mikuski.

Brian Ross taught photography and graphic arts / offset printing for 31 years at Presque Isle Regional Technology Center. He retired three years ago but still teaches digital photography for Presque Isle Adult Education. He is born and raised in Ft. Fairfield, but started doing photography in the early 1960s while based in Germany with the US Army. He prefers scenery and living history themes.

Jessica Stackhouse has been carving wood for five years, beginning in a high school art class taught by Tom Cote. She was born and raised in Caswell and is presently a junior studying art at UMPI. Jessica likes working with wood and clay and prefers landscapes. She will be carving a work during the auction, along with Rotary Resident Artist Tom Cote.

Wilma Tompkins began painting in 1970, following the footsteps of her mother. She has “tried everything” but especially likes to paint acrylic seascapes and autumn scenes, but is also partial to still lifes and portraits. She also has done watercolors and pen-and-ink drawings. She taught art through adult education at Presque Isle High School and in her home; several of artists who have contributed to the Rotary Art Auction in previous years have explicitly acknowledged the assistance and encouragement given them by Wilma. She is starting to paint again after a break following the death of her husband.

Constance M. Tucker took her first photo course after graduating from UMPI, and fell in love with the medium. She went on to earn a master's degree from Vermont College and a certificate of advanced study from the Maine Photographic Workshop. Connie has taught art, photo, and humanities courses at UMPI and Loring AFB, and art workshops in public schools. Her work has been shown throughout the state and in NYC. She specializes in black-and-white infrared and hand-colored landscapes. Her series, Tropical Spaces, has been a work in progress for twenty years.
