Ashley Bard has lived her entire life in Presque Isle. She comes from a creative family that has encouraged her painting since childhood. She is inspired by local landscapes and also paints stilllifes and portraits, in acrylics or graphic drawings. Ashley mainly works in the realistic style and has twice won the Fine Arts Talent Award For Outstanding Studio Achievement at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where she has also won the Art History/Film Scholar and Joel Dana Senior Show Art Awards. Elizabeth Jane Cain grew up in New Jersey and moved to Houlton four years ago. Elizabeth started taking pictures with her mother's camera when she was 16 years old, and has been encouraged by her mother, uncle and grandfather, all of whom were artists or photographers. Her uncle, Paul M. Breeden, was artist for the National Geographic, and Elizabeth has gained much inspiration from the photographs in that magazine. Her pictures commonly include floral, woodland or other subjects and her work can be seen and purchased at the Vision Art Gallery in Houlton.

Lara Cannon has worked professionally for ten years and received a Bachelors' degree in Fine Art from Brigham Young. She moved from Seattle to Northern Maine three years ago and is presently the President of the Art Center at the Aroostook Centre Mall. Lara paints portraits and does murals for hotel lobbies and has recently been inspired by David Leffel from Santa Fe. She has won a national award for a ceramic piece and has a work displayed at the Springville Museum of Art in Utah.

Laura Caudle lives in the "other Augusta" – in Georgia – but is linked to northern Maine by her sister, Kate McCartney (wife of Rotary member and art auction organizer Kevin). Laura began quilting five years ago. Laura makes about five quilts a year, and prefers piecing and traditional patterns, though she does work with a machine. She finds quilts to be a great creative outlet and part of a long artistic tradition that links women across centuries of time. The quilt that she has designed and made for this auction is a "Northwoods Quilt" with woodsy colors of green and brown and each block having an outdoor theme, perfect for your camp.

Jamie Corey is originally from the Bath area but moved to Blaine with her mother about twelve years ago. She has been working on her art since high school and is now a senior art major at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She paints landscapes and abstracts in acrylics and watercolor and also does ceramics, drawings and sculptures that include "found" objects. She is now preparing for her UMPI Senior Art Project.

Tom Cote was born and has lived in northern Maine, and has recently retired as a art teacher at Limestone Community School. His specialty is wood carvings and his work has been seen for many years at area art and craft shows, and this year was carving at the American Folk Festival in Bangor. His art is in private collections on all the earth's continents except Antarctica. Tom has been a regular a participant in the Rotary Art Auction and will for the second year be Rotary Resident Artist.

Julie Daly moved to Presque Isle from New Jersey in 1969, and worked as a secretary at the University of Maine at Presque Isle for several years. She has been painting for about 25 years. She paints in oil and does portraits ("like eyes, especially"), seacoasts and stilllifes. She has won several "Best Overall" awards at the Northern Maine Fair and is heavily influenced by Frank Benson, who was a turn-of-the-century American impressionist. Julia previously contributed an artwork to the 2005 Rotary Art Auction.

Ed Dery lives in Presque Isle and works as an audio-visual technician at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. His specialty is pen and ink drawings using a stippled technique. His scenes usually involve forest or rock surfaces. He has been seriously working on his art for twenty five years. Ed previously contributed to the first Rotary Art Auction, in 2003.

Rosalie Doughman was born and has lived her life in Maine. She has been working on her art during the last eight years. She is retired. Her specialty is landscapes with lots of flowers and color, although she also works from photographs of The County. She has received the Best of Show award and blue ribbons at the Northern Maine Fair. Rose has twice previously been a contributor to the Rotary Art Auction, in 2003 and 2005.

Renee Felini moved to Caribou two years ago from Canton, Ohio. Her love for art began as early as she can remember. She has completed a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters of Fine Arts from Miami University, of Ohio, where she did sculpture. She works with a wide range of media, including graphite, acrylic, wood, and bronze. Renee is presently teaching an oil painting course for Caribou Adult Education. She is available for commissions, including pet portraits.

Valerie Martin was born and raised in Easton. She started painting seriously while a senior in high school. She is presently a senior at Indiana Wesleyan University, studying illustration and painting. She illustrates in ink and marker, and paints in acrylic, watercolor and oils, and prefers abstracts and landscapes.

Susan McCarthy was born in New Sweden and has lived in that area all her life. She started painting about twelve years ago. She usually with acrylic on "recycled" materials such as old window panes, barrels, slates, frying pans or ironing boards. Her paintings commonly depict lighthouses, flowers or seasonal themes such as snowmen and she is well known for her paintings of storefront windows in Caribou and surrounding areas of snowmen and other winter scenes. Her work can be found at Swedish Midsomnar and at arts and crafts shows. She recently won a first place ribbon at the Northern Maine Fair.

Sandra Mclaughlin was born in Presque Isle and while always a painter, has been especially active the past six or seven years. Her art style has been inspired by 19th century landscape and seascape artist J.M.W. Turner and the work of Georgia O'Keefe. Sandra works with acrylic paint and layered paper and uses mixed natural media such as bark, leaves and nuts. She had a recent show titled "Sense of Place" in the Presque Isle Library.

Margaret Peers has been a resident of Caswell and has been doing photography for the last 15-20 years. She first became interested in photography after taking courses at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Frequent subjects of her eye are landscapes, old buildings and wildlifes. About two years ago, Margaret began carving wood with Tom Cote.

Evelyn Powers was born in Presque Isle and starting sketching "before she could write." She has long had a fascination with watercolors and taught watercolor for about 20 years at Presque Isle High School. More recently she has worked with acrylics. Her paintings typically depict florals, farm buildings, barns and potato houses, and she has won numerous awards at art shows and the Northern Maine Fair. A work of hers is presently exhibited in Senator Susan Collins office in Washington, D. C.

Jessica Stackhouse has been carving wood for five years, beginning in a high school art class taught by Tom Cote. She was born and raised in Caswell and is presently a junior studying art at UMPI. Jessica likes working with wood and clay and prefers landscapes. She will be carving a work during the auction, along with Rotary Resident Artist Tom Cote.

Annette Tardy is a lifelong resident of Limestone and has been painting "off and on" for ten years. She has taken classes with Mary Lowe and Tom Cote of Limestone. She paints in acrylic and prefers landscapes. Her work recently won a blue ribbon at the Northern Maine Fair.

Reverend Shelly Timber began handspinning wool yarn soon after arriving in New Sweden seven years ago, first on a drop-spindle, then on both antique and modern day spinning wheels. She has woven ragrugs, a tradition in early Swedish homes, using an antique 46 inch floor loom. In addition to handspinning yarn, also for use on her loom, she knits Icelandic-style woolen mittens, embellished with natural stones, beadwork, and fleece or velvet linings. Shelly attributes her fiber interests to the encouragement from a group of local spinners, weavers and knitters. She also makes Scandinavian birch soaps and gourmet jellies (www.sjellies.com).
