Course Description:
Principles of Accounting I is the introductory course in accounting. The first part of the course focuses on record keeping. Students will learn to complete the accounting cycle by first identifying and recording accounting transactions. That information will then be summarized by preparing a trial balance, which will be adjusted to conform to the accrual basis of accounting. Using the adjusted trial balance, students will learn to prepare financial statements, including the income statement, the statement of changes in owner's equity, and the balance sheet. The closing process will complete the cycle.
The final part of the course exposes students to a 'computer based accounting package.'
After the lecture covering chapter material, in class exercises will be used to illustrate the accounting application. Problems will then be assigned, and upon completion by students, solutions to the problems will be demonstrated in class.
